The Mask of Success

I still remember the day everything changed. It was an ordinary Tuesday morning, but it was the beginning of a major change in my life. The weight of my careful facade was too much to bear, and I fell to the cold, unforgiving bathroom floor. That moment was the end of my year of reporting on my struggle, and it made a significant difference in my mental health. I was that kid; I was top of my class, captain of the debate team, always smiling and looking bright, even on the darkest day. To the outside world, I am the embodiment of success. But beneath the smiling face and polished exterior lies a storm of self-doubt, anxiety, and melancholy. I have perfected the art of maintaining the appearance of success while dealing with a crisis. “I’m fine” has become my mantra—a simple slogan to deflect the anxiety of those around me. This denial acts as both a barrier and a prison, allowing me to avoid confronting my anxiety. Sleepless nights became commonplace and caused incredible stress. A period of despair, when I tried to be normal but nothing was happening inside me. I stood in front of the mirror and looked at my reflection, which was nothing like the person I thought I knew. Sunken eyes, sunken jaws, a soul that seemed to have lost all its life energy stared back at me. I felt like a ghost of my past self, and that day I was faced with a crucial choice: surrender to the darkness that haunted me or face it with the courage I had just realized I had. 

The Turning Point

In despair and weakness, I decided to change my life. With shaking hands, I picked up the phone and called my doctor. Reaching out is both terrifying and liberating. I have been trying to do everything on my own for so long, but I know I can't do it alone, it's overwhelming.
