"Kambh nikalna"
Some time ago, I suffered from back pain that caused a lot of discomfort. I couldn't sit for long and spent most of my time lying down. The pain didn't seem to ease at all. I had tried many treatments, but nothing worked.
Someone kindly advised me, "Don't worry. You know that in Sindh, elderly people often tie an ajrak (a traditional cloth) from the waist to the knees, especially in rural areas. They bring the ajrak from behind their waist and tie it around their knees when sitting. This practice is called 'Kambh Nikalna.'"
They said, "Just use an ajrak immediately and try 'Kambh Nikal' and sit down."
Half an hour later, my pain had reduced significantly.
Now, whenever anyone has back pain, I always explain this method to them and teach them how to do "Kambh Nikal."
The method of "Kambh Nikal" is quite simple. It’s like how women wear a large dupatta or any long cloth. You wrap it around your back and tie it around your knees, similar to how we usually wear a belt. However, unlike a belt, which is tied around the waist, this cloth should be tied from the waist down to the knees.
Simply sit on the floor, a bed, or a chair, and spread the dupatta or ajrak over your back to get good support both from above and below. Then bring it down towards your knees and tie it. You will feel immediate relief in your back.
I am also sharing a picture where you can see how a person has tied the "Kambh."
Whenever someone has back pain, first try this simple method. And if you are traveling or in a place where you need to sit on the floor for a long time, like during religious or educational gatherings, I suggest you try this ancient Sindhi tradition. It has also been practiced for centuries by the Arabs.
