Nowadays, people spend too much time in front of screens, whether it is social media or online classes. Screen time and online platforms may affect a person’s mental health in many ways. Teenagers and adults can encounter stress, anxiety, and other mental disorders if they spend too much time on electronic devices.
The Impact on Teenagers
Social media has a significant impact on this generation because most people have profiles and spend hours daily viewing content. Moreover, teenagers start to compare their lives with others as much as possible. Seeing other people’s perfect photos, luxurious and enjoyable pictures makes them think that they are not successful enough. Their desire to be liked as much as their idols leads to anxiety, stress, depression, and eating disorders. Cyberbullying and loss of self-esteem due to comments and messages also increase the rate of anxiety among adolescents. When teenagers stay up late at night browsing social networks, their sleep schedule is disturbed. Such a condition makes them tired during the day and moody and anxious.
