Who Were Our Early Ancestors?
Our early ancestors lived a very long time ago, long before cities or farms existed. We call them "hunter-gatherers." This means they hunted wild animals and gathered wild plants to eat.
Life was not easy. They did not have supermarkets, money, or houses. They had to find everything in nature to survive.
Living in Caves
Early humans needed a safe place to sleep. They needed protection from bad weather and dangerous animals. Many early humans used natural shelters, like caves or big rocks.
- Warm and Dry: Caves kept them safe from rain, snow, and cold wind.
- Safety: Caves had strong stone walls. This made it easier to watch for wild animals.
- Fire: Early humans learned to make fire. They made fires inside or near the cave to see in the dark and stay warm. Fire also helped keep dangerous animals away.

How Did They "Earn a Living"?
Today, people work at jobs to earn money. Early humans did not have money or jobs. Their "job" was simply to stay alive. They earned a living by finding food every single day.
Hunting Animals
Hunting was very important. Early humans hunted in small groups because it was much safer. They worked together to catch animals.
- Tools: They made simple tools from stones, bones, and wood. They used spears and sharp stones to hunt and cut meat.
- Food: They ate the meat to get energy. They cooked the meat over their fires.
- Clothes and Tools: They did not throw anything away. They used animal skins to make warm clothes. They used animal bones to make tents and new tools.

Gathering Plants
Hunting was hard and sometimes dangerous. They did not catch animals every day. So, they also gathered food from plants. Both men and women helped find food.
They collected:
Fruits and berries
Nuts and seeds
Roots and green leaves
Because they ate many different plants and some meat, they had healthy diets and strong bodies.
Moving to New Places
Early humans did not stay in one cave forever. They were "nomads". This means they moved from place to place.
When the animals moved to a new area, the humans followed them. When winter came or the fruits were gone, they looked for a new forest. They packed their simple tools and walked to find a new cave or make a new camp.
Life for our early ancestors was very different from our lives today. They worked hard to find food and stay warm. They used caves to stay safe from the weather and animals. They hunted animals and picked wild plants to survive. By working together in groups, our ancestors learned how to live in a wild world.
