Jos Buttler steps down as England captain in limited overs
England's ODI and T20 teams will need a new leader after T20 World Cup winning captain steps down after Champions Trophy

England ODI and T20 skipper Jos Buttler has announced he will be standing down as white-ball captain. Buttler, 34 took over from Eoin Morgan and was part of the 2019 World Cup winnng side. The wicket-keeper batsmen lead his country to the T20 World Cup in Autumn 2022 after they beat Pakistan in the final.
From there on in, things got worse for the England skipper. As good as The Three Lions had been, after 2019, the need for transition was there, but arguably the 2019 world champions were too slow to identify the need for change. Moeen Ali is example of one player who has retired not too long ago. Don't get me wrong, the man has been a great servant for his country, but the time has been to move on.
In the current squad too Adil Rahid is well into his 30's and the premier fast bowling duo Mark Wood and Jofra Archer aren't the same players that they were six years ago. Both are very talented, but injuries have caught up with both, but there's not a Reese Topley kind of bowler to compliment the two speedsters.
It's amazing how in previous England regimes, there had been a far cry for the 2022 T20 World champions England to have a more pace based attack. Speed, speed the far cry was, now it's the other way round almost. Jos Buttler is a very popular member of the England side and on many occasions over the years he has been a match-winner.
Buttler had been up amongst the very best in this format in the game, yes the Kohli's and the De Villiers of this world, he is that good. In the last year or so however, injuries have disrupted his career and his captaincy. Every great leader had their day and sadly for Jis Buttler now is his day.
The question remains, who should replace Buttler? In my humble opinion someone like a Harry Brook should be given the role, but on the other hand, I will be concerned that having the captaincy might affect his batting.
