Easy Wellness Practices You Can Start With No Equipment
Honestly, I used to think wellness was only for rich people. You know, those people who have a gym at home, expensive yoga mats, and they drink green smoothies every morning. I thought, "I can't do all that."
But then I realized something. Wellness is not about money. It is about small, simple habits. And I started with zero equipment. No gym. No yoga mat. Nothing. Just me and my room.
So, if you are like me and you want to feel better without spending anything, here are a few things that actually worked for me.
1. I Started With Deep Breathing

This sounds too simple, right? I also thought the same. But trust me, it works.
Every morning, before I even check my phone, I sit on my bed and take 5 deep breaths. I breathe in slowly from my nose, hold it for a second, and then breathe out from my mouth. That's it.
At first, I felt silly doing it. But after a few days, I noticed I was not feeling so stressed in the morning. My mind felt a little more clear. Try it for 3 days. You will feel the difference.
2. Stretching For Just 5 Minutes

I sit a lot. For writing, for mobile, for study. And my neck and back used to hurt all the time. One day my mother said, "Beta, thora sa stretch kar lo."
So I started. I just stand up, roll my shoulders, move my neck left and right, stretch my arms up, and try to touch my toes. I am not very flexible, to be honest. I still can't touch my toes properly. But it doesn't matter.
Just 5 minutes of stretching in the morning makes my body feel light. If you work on a laptop, please do this. Your back will thank you later.
3. Walking - My Favourite One
Walking is my favourite wellness habit because it is free and it is easy.
I don't walk for one hour. I just walk for 20 minutes in the evening. Sometimes on the roof, sometimes on the street. Sometimes I listen to music, sometimes I just walk quietly and think about my day.
I remember one day I was feeling very sad and tired. I didn't want to do anything. I forced myself to go for a walk. And after 10 minutes, I started feeling a little better. Not fully happy, but better. That day I understood, walking is like medicine for the mind.
4. I Started Drinking More Water
This one was hard for me. I used to forget to drink water. I would drink tea 3-4 times a day but not water. And then I would get headaches and feel tired.
So I kept a water bottle near me. Not a fancy one. Just a normal bottle. And I started taking small sips the whole day. I try to drink 6 to 8 glasses now. I am not perfect, some days I drink less. But still, I feel more active than before.
If you feel tired all the time, please check your water first. It might be just that.
5. Eating Slowly
I am going to be honest here. I used to eat very fast while watching my mobile. I would finish my food in 5 minutes and I wouldn't even know what I ate.
Now I try to eat without my phone. Just me and my food. I chew slowly. I enjoy the taste. I stop when I feel full, not when the plate is empty.
I eat more home food now. Daal, sabzi, salad, fruits. I still eat fast food sometimes. I am not going to lie. But I eat it less than before. And my stomach feels much lighter.
6. Writing 3 Good Things
This is a habit I learned recently and I love it. Every night before sleeping, I write 3 good things that happened in my day. It can be very small.
Like, "Today I had a nice cup of chai." Or, "Today my friend called me." Or, "Today the weather was nice."
At first, I thought, what is the point? But slowly, my mind started looking for good things in the day. Instead of only thinking about problems, I started thinking about good moments too. It really helps.
7. Less Screen, Better Sleep
I know this is hard. I also use my mobile a lot. But I noticed when I use mobile till late night, I can't sleep properly.
So now I have a small rule. 30 minutes before sleeping, I keep my mobile away. I read a book, or I just talk to my family, or I just lie down quietly.
And I try to sleep at the same time every night. It is not easy every day, but when I sleep well, I wake up fresh. When I don't sleep well, my whole next day is ruined. I am sure you have felt this too.
Final Thoughts
Look, you don't need to do all of these things in one day. That will be too much. And you will give up after 2 days. I did that too in the beginning.
Just pick any 2 things. Maybe breathing and walking. Do them for one week. Then add one more. Slowly, slowly, it will become your routine.
Wellness is not a big project. It is just taking care of yourself a little bit every day. Start today. Start small. And be kind to yourself.
