Election Day: Key Congressional and Senate Races in Several States
Democrats held leads in Senate races in Ohio, Texas, Iowa, Kansas, and Alaska, according to a New York Times/Siena poll released the day before Election Day.
Trump's substantial political involvement in the states could result in him being held accountable for a potential blue wave, which could have a lasting effect on the Republican Party beyond Election Day.

Republicans warn that a blue wave would be detrimental to the last two years of the Trump administration, and by extension, his legacy.
"It affects his capacity to influence policy over the next two years, or if a Supreme Court nomination is announced, or fill in the blank in terms of Cabinet turnover," stated a Republican strategist, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "All of this will contribute to his legacy, and the manner in which you are remembered at the conclusion is what determines your place in history."
In a statement to The Hill on Monday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) warned that Democrats would "obstruct" Trump's agenda and that their "disastrous economic policies" would drive jobs overseas.

"The president is aware of the importance of this cycle, which is why he has traveled across the country to motivate our voters to endorse Republican candidates who will further his agenda and provide for the American people," stated Natalie Baldassarre, spokesperson for the Republican National Committee.
But during an election-eve speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, Trump did not appear entirely focused on the elections that could impact the trajectory of his last two years in office.

The president devoted the initial 22 minutes of his 37-minute address, which was primarily perceived as a concluding message prior to the midterm elections, to discussing his administration's endeavors to restore the Reflecting Pool. Trump displayed numerous photographs of the pool prior to its renovation and, at one point extended an invitation to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to contribute brief remarks from the podium.
Trump also touted his numerous beautification projects and lower crime in the nation's capital.
