He then won in stunning fashion, defeating UFC champion Tricus du Plessis via unanimous decision in Chicago on Tuesday night in the United States.

The 31-year-old Russian, Simeev, finished the fight with more than 10 takedowns and was on du Plessis for most of the fight, hitting him in the legs and knocking him out.

But there were some thrilling moments in the fifth round, when Simeev went down with a heavy knee - perhaps the most dangerous moment he had seen.

The judges scored Simeev 50-44, 50-44, 50-44, giving Simeev the 15-0 victory.

The crowd celebrated after a concert filled with dance, dance, dance. Simeev was not happy after the victory.

"Happy, always happy," Simeow said of how he felt after the fight. "Take my money. Dana (White), keep my money, brother."

Simeow also praised du Plessis.

"The man was strong until the end," he said. "... This guy has a big heart."

Du Plessis praised Sime.

“The guy has incredible control at the top,” he said. “He’s like a blanket. I mean, it’s not about strength. He’s not that physical. It’s like he knows what your next (move) is going to be.”

Du Plessis, 31, from South Africa, failed to defend his UFC title for the first time in three attempts as his record dropped to 23-3.

“I finally did it, and it was behind me,” said Du Plessis. “I almost got to taste that victory. But (to Sime), he beat me fair and square tonight. He’s the best man.”

Khamzat Chimaev keeps UFC fans worried:

Khamzat Chimaev’s return to the ring will come as a huge relief, as he missed a number of big fights for various reasons. He canceled three fights with Leon Edwards due to COVID-19, according to the UFC. He was also forced to withdraw from his fight with Nate Diaz after exceeding the 170-pound weight limit. He also withdrew from his fight with Robert Whittaker due to an undisclosed illness.

Drax du Plessis relies on his mental strength:

Drax du Plessis said he has been hiring a mental coach for the past eight years and believes the results will be evident when he faces Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319. Chimiev is expected to knock out Du Plessis soon, but the reigning middleweight champion ruled it out.

“We’re just using our mental strength,” he told UFC Unfiltered. "It's not really a problem. It's just a strategy, a way to approach it, because every opponent is a little different."

"I'm thinking about how I can make this strategy even stronger, that's where my mental training comes in. I'm trying to win before the fight."

"Mentally, I can't give up. It's impossible."

Why Khamzat Chimaev is nicknamed "Borz":

In the Chechen language of the Russian Federation, where Khamzat Chimaev was born and raised, "Borz" means wolf. The wolf is the national animal of Chechnya and is usually a symbol of strength and courage, qualities that Chimaev has shown during his 14-0 record as a mixed martial artist. This week, Chimaev got custom shorts with howling wolves on both sides.

UFC 319 press conference: Crowd erupts:

Khamzat Chimaev looked happy.

His cheers came from the enthusiastic crowd gathered in Chicago for his final press conference before his fight against UFC middleweight champion Drax du Plessis at UFC 319 on Saturday, August 16th.

As Du Plessis tried to answer her first question, the smell drowned out her voice.

“Man, that was the worst bong I’ve ever heard,” Du Plessis said when the noise finally died down. "Well done, Loco, well done."

UFC 319: Du Plessis vs Chimaev prediction:

Josh Peter of USA TODAY Sports: “It will take the stamina-rich Khamzat Chimaev in the fifth round for Dracas du Plessis to win, but Chimaev is likely to end the fight quickly.” Prediction: Chimaev, 2nd round finish

MMA Mania’s Andrew Richardson: “I believe Du Plessis and his team have proven their ability to create an appropriate game plan for complex stylistic demands.” Prediction: Du Plessis, K.O.

Alexander K. Lee (MMA Fighting): "When Chimaev is in top form, there's no one on earth who can beat him. There's no reason to waver from that belief." Prediction: Chimaev wins by stoppage in the first or second round.

Dean Thomas (ESPN): “I think Khumzat’s grappling pressure will be intense.” Prediction: Chimaev wins.

Drake Riggs (Uncrowned): "In this fight with Chimaev, the most effective form of offensive grappling is defense, and the champion will need to show that. The tireless Chechen will come at Chimaev mercilessly." Prediction: Chimaev wins.

Trent Rensmith (Forbes): “The prevailing theory in this fight is that if Du Plessis can survive the first round, he can gain a striking advantage and rack up the points to win, but against a fighter as aggressive and explosive as Chimaev, that’s a big question mark.” Prediction: Du Plessis is expected to win via decision or late knockout. However, a Chimaev submission win is also a highly likely winner.
