In Islamic tradition, Yajooj and Majooj (Arabic: يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ), commonly known as Gog and Magog in English, are two exceptionally large, powerful, and destructive tribes of human beings. They are a major element in Islamic eschatology (the study of the end times) and are explicitly mentioned in both the Quran and authentic Hadiths.

​1. The Story of the Great Wall

​According to Surah Al-Kahf in the Quran, Yajooj and Majooj were spreading great chaos and corruption on earth. A righteous and powerful ruler named Dhul-Qarnayn traveled to a region between two mountains where the local people begged him for help. To protect them, Dhul-Qarnayn constructed a massive, impenetrable barrier made of iron blocks and coated it with molten copper, effectively trapping the tribes behind it.  

​2. Their Daily Attempt to Escape

​Prophetic Hadiths state that Yajooj and Majooj try to dig through the wall every single day. Each evening, as they begin to see daylight through the barrier, their leader tells them to return and finish digging the next day. Because they forget to say "Insha'Allah" (if Allah wills), Allah restores the wall to its original thickness overnight.  

​3. Their Release in the End Times

​Their eventual release is one of the Major Signs of the Day of Judgment. At the appointed time toward the end of the world, their leader will finally say, "We will finish tomorrow, Insha'Allah," allowing them to successfully break through the next day.  

​They will swarm out in numbers so immense that they will consume entire bodies of water (such as the Sea of Galilee/Lake Tabariyah). They will bring widespread destruction, causing humanity to hide away in fortresses.  

​4. Their Ultimate End

​According the teachings, they will appear after the descent of Prophet Isa (Jesus), who will not have the physical strength to fight such an overwhelming army. Prophet Isa and the believers will pray to Allah for deliverance. In response, Allah will send a type of worm (Naghafan) that will infect the necks of Yajooj and Majooj, instantly destroying the entire population at once.
