This homemade chocolate cake is super easy to make using simple ingredients. It is moist, full of flavor and sure to satisfy someone's sweet tooth. The cake is great for birthdays, family get-togethers or whenever you fancy a good chocolate cake.
Ingredients

For The Cake
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup hot water or hot coffee
For the Frosting
- ½ cup softened butter
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 3-4 tablespoons milk
Method

- Preheat the oven to 180C (350F). Grease a 9 inch round cake tin with butter or oil as well as dusting it with some flour. You could also line the bottom with baking paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt. Add in the sugar and give it a good mix. Add in the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla essence and milk and mix together until you get a smooth batter
- Stir in the hot water or coffee a little at a time until you get a runny mixture. You might think that it is too runny but trust me, the hot liquid will create a wonderfully moist and rich chocolate cake.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for 30-35 minutes or until it is done. Insert a toothpick in the middle; if it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, it is ready. Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes and then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat the butter until it becomes light and fluffy. Add in the cocoa powder and the powdered sugar and keep mixing until it is well incorporated. Add in the vanilla essence and enough milk to create a smooth consistency.
- Add it on the cooled cake and decorate with shaved chocolate, sprinkles, nuts or even chocolate chips. Cut into slices and serve with tea, coffee or cold milk.
